SPOOLEDFUSIBLELINKWIRE
AfusiblelinkisaspecialsectionoflowtensioncableinstalledbyanOEMand
designedtoopenacircuitwhensubjectedtoextremecurrentoverload.Its
purposeistominimizewiringsystemdamagewhensuchanoverload
accidentallyoccursinthosecircuitsprotectedbythefusiblelink.Ashortcircuit
causesthefusiblelinktoactasanelementina“slow-blow”fuse.Afusiblelink
isnotintendedtobeusedinplaceofafusebutonlywhereafusecannotbe
economicallyemployed.OurfusiblelinewiremeetstherequirementsofSE
J-156andtheinsulationhasthecharacteristicsaslistedforEAE,SEJ-1128
TypeSXL.Thevehiclemanufacturershouldbeconsultedaboutquestionson
fusiblelinklengthandsize.Generalpracticehasbeenforafusiblelinktobe4
gaugessmallerthanthecircuitwire.Example:ifthecircuitwireis12gauge,use
a16gaugefusiblelink.FinaldeterminationshouldbebasedonO.E.M.
application.
Note:Extremecareshouldbetakentoalwaysreplaceafusiblelinkwiththe
samegaugeandlengthasinstalledbythemanufacturer.
